About this recording

John Manson was a member of the last family to leave Stroma in 1962. In this short recording he recalls the day the Queen Mother came to the island for a picnic.
He also remembers when some of Stroma’s old fishing boats were piled up and set on fire as a beacon to mark the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.

Comments

My paternal great-great-great grandmother was Janet Manson who married Alexander Murray. She died Dec 5, 1885.
Her parents were Alex and Ann Manson. Are we related? She continued farming after her husband died and later owned stables and some houses.
