About this recording
Catherine Munro grew up on Lieurary Farm and attended the local school until she reached Higher Grade, when she had to cycle daily to Miller Academy, Thurso. Catherine talks fondly about life on the farm, including the war years, when prisoners from the Watten Prisoner of War Camp assisted on the farm and joined the family around the kitchen table for their morning, hot drink. She also describes the excitement when she accompanied her father to the mill in Thurso to deliver the bere to be milled.
Catherine regrets not learning to play the piano but claims she was more interested in her pony and the horses on the farm, however she explains that her mother, who had been a teacher at Lieurary School, played the piano at her 100th birthday party.
