The Covid-19 pandemic has been a learning experience for everyone. Andrew Mowat of the Seaview Hotel and treasurer of the John OGroats Development Trust records his lockdown reflections, not only talking about the impact upon business, staff and family but he reflects upon tourism in general. In particular he praises the community effort to care for the elderly and vulnerable.
Andrew explains how the John OGroats Development Trust joined with the Dunnet and Canisbay Community Council to form a community support network. He also highlights the support of the Caithness Voluntary Group in co-ordinating the resilience operation.
Andrew recalls an elderly local man who claimed that John OGroats was the beginning of the World”. Therefore people in the community, along with members of the development trust saw lockdown as an opportunity to make improvements to the area with a view to making John OGroats a world class destination.
