About this recording

Ray Richard reads Miss (Topsy) Begg's fascinating story of crossing Europe in August 1914. Miss Begg attended a Summer School at Marburg University in Germany. While she was there WW1 was declared. She describes her journey across Europe, without a passport and her safe return to the shores of Britain. Miss Begg taught French and German at Wick High School for many years. Ray Richard was taught by Miss Begg and remembers her with great fondness.
