About this recording
Pat Miller’s association with Wick Academy FC began in 1973 and he has served in a wide variety of roles during that time: goalkeeper, manager, co-manager during Academy’s historic first season as a Highland League club in 1994/95, general manager and committee member, even carrying out kitman and physio tasks as well as helping to look after the Harmsworth Park playing surface. Pat also knows what it feels like to be sacked (or “dumped”) as manager, yet he continues to show unswerving loyalty to his home-town team.
In this interview, Pat recalls playing football as a boy and describes the great sense of occasion when the North School team took on their Pulteneytown Academy counterparts in an annual challenge match. He also talks about some of the highs and lows of his 45 years with Academy.
Now retired from Dounreay, Pat enjoys playing golf when he is not fulfilling his many Academy duties.
