About this recording

Norman Macleod was born and brought up in Nicolson Street, Pulteneytown. Norman not only talks about his working life, including the twenty-six years spent working with British Telecom, but he reflects upon his time as a Special Constable and his many years with H.M. Coastguard.

Many family members, including Norman, were involved in search and rescue with H.M. Coastguard and at one point in time, the local team included nine members of his family.

Listen to Norman reflect upon the good times and the sad times.
He recalls rescuing cows, sheep and dogs on various occasions but on a sadder note reflects upon the search and rescue operations involving the Hassett and the George Robb trawlers.

Norman also talks about meeting various members of the Royal Family, when he was involved in preparing the annual fireworks display at the Castle of Mey.
