Box Bedroom

This bedroom has a box bed typical of the type used on the old crofts and small holdings of the 19th and early 20th century.

Relatively uniquely, this box bed has doors affording some privacy and welcome warmth. The only metal in the entire assembly are the tiny door hinges.

Many of these box beds would become the temporary home for some the many visitors to the town during the fishing season. Somewhere around 6000 fish workers would descend on Wick during June, July and August and they required accommodation.
